AA GETS ON THE MOBILE MUSIC MACHINE

AA had the pleasure of being invited to perform in the grand finale of the Mobile Music Machine presented by Live From Memphis. What is the Mobile Music Machine you ask? It's something like you've never seen before. It's a mobile stage concert attached to a bike. (How cool is that?!) They hosted a special lunchtime edition in the business district of downtown Memphis. We had such a blast that we didn't want to get off! People young and old were dancing in the street as we rode by. Live From Memphis caught it all on camera. Here are a few pictures of the action.

AA GETS INTERVIEWED

This was our very first interview as a group and were very honored to be highlighted. We met with Aniysha, better known as Ghetto Jane, from Neosoulville on a Saturday afternoon right after we did a recording session with MaxPtah. It went over very well. Very casual, very relaxed, very refreshing. It was almost like talking to an old friend.

This was by far one of the best interviews I’ve had to date. It’s always a pleasure when artists take time out from their schedules to share a bit about themselves. Artistik Approach is one such group. These young artists from different walks of life are coming together to create something fresh, innovative, and all their own as well as designing a curve in the underground hip hop scene. Comprised of a rapper (J. West), an R&B artist (Eso), and a percussionist/beat boxer (Sylve), Artistik Approach is creating not only great music without instruments, but they’ve allowed us to see that there is always room for change.Get to Know: Artistik Approach

So what’s behind the name Artistik Approach?

Well it was a concept that I (Eso) had. We were just getting together and I’m like hey we’re all art students (Memphis College of Art) and we do different forms of art not just visual but musically as well and we approach them in different ways and boom there we were Artistik Approach.

Are you guys working on a project?

Yes we are working on our first LP. We had a project that we put out last year that we’re in the process of rerecording that and releasing that as well.

AA performed for the "Downtown Alive Lunch Series" in Memphis in Court Square!! It was an awesome experience!! The "passer bys", the general audience, and the "Babies" really made the event. We thank everyone that supported the event. Everyone who documented the event with pictures and video, brought people to the event, purchased a cd, etc. we appreciate you. Memphis' 1st Hip-Hop Unification Summit: Recap

We were invited to participate in "Memphis' First Hip-Hop Unification Summit" to showcase different hip-hop acts that are located in the Memphis area.The event was to highlight the Memphis rap and hip-hop scene. Memphis is thought of nationally in terms of Three 6 Mafia, Yo Gotti, and 8Ball & MJG, all roughly similar artists. But the scene has grown more diverse — and, as a consequence, more fragmented — in the past decade. Independent promoter Kaviar Lewis put the spotlight on the local scene by bringing artists from different strands of the Memphis hip-hop scene together for three showcases at three local venues in a self-described "unification summit". We were honored to had been a part of this. Our style stands out from the average hip-hop act, but we weren't aware of the other acts in the area that were just as different as we are. There were five acts the first night, including us. There was so much love and support that night. We had the chance to be exposed to a crowd that wouldn't have normally seen us. It was a much needed event for Memphis.

AA Makes List of Best "60 Seconds" in 2010

Okay. We did a "60 Second" segment with LIVE FROM MEMPHIS (LFM) a few months ago and it turned out pretty well. However, we didn't expect it to be one of the "BEST" clips for 2010 according to the LFM Staff. There were many to choose from and we are very honored to have been a part of the few chosen. Thank you. We really appreciate it. Congrats to all of the other talented people who were chosen as well. This our 15 minutes of fame!! ;) Check it out!!

"BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES" Documentary

I saw this documentary a few day ago and I had to share it. It's basically talking about the music industry's current condition. It also highlight's the artist that are continuing to write and play music NOT for the fortune or fame, but for the love of the music. Almost half of this year's Grammy's nominations are from independent artist. So, if you are an advocate for good music, spread the word about the TALENTED ARTISTS, SOULFUL LYRICS, and GREAT MUSIC.

Earlier this summer we ran into this amazing voice we heard at an open mic hosted by Darius aka "PhatMak" in Memphis. We vibed to her performing with the D.O.P.E. Poets from Atlanta by way of Phili. She enjoyed what we did as well. We even did something together last minute during the open mic. After that, we just stayed outside of the venue jamming. Next thing you know, cypers were happening left and right!!!!!! There were too many of them to count. Wish we could've caught all of them on camera. However, we did catch this one. It's our version of "Summertime" with a little Aja Ray flavor. Hope you enjoy!...

AA @ River Arts Festival

AA was the opening act for the rainy second day of the River Arts Festival in Memphis. Cindy helped us out once again with a few songs. We were out "Singin' in the Rain" for a second. The crowd was small at first. As the rain slowed up, they started gathering around. It was our first time performing at the festival. The people were very responsive to us. It was a definitely a great experience. A lot of networking took place. It feels like this will be the first of many more performances at this festival.

At the last minute, AA was invited to perform at the Indie Memphis Film Festival lounge last saturday evening. It was a great opportunity. Had a chance to perform for many local, as well as national, indie film directors including Craig Brewer, the director of "Hustle and Flow". He seemed very pleased with our performance. Cindy helped us that night by gracing mic with a few songs. A lot of networking took place. Shout outs to Tonya Dyson and Tameka Daniel for the opportunity.

The Strange Fruit Fashion Show was a success!! Anybody who was anybody, or even wanted to somebody be was there. The art community represented very well. The cool kids mingled. The music was hot. The clothes were hip. It definitely was the place to be that friday.

This is our opening performance at the Strange Fruit Vintage Fashion Show!! We did our best to start the event off with something fresh. Shout out to Petey for having us. The whole event was DOPE!! If you missed, man, you REALLY MISSED IT!!

ReRooted is a culmination of soulful and socially just, artistic expression and performance. Our collaboration has been created by artists Siphne Sylve, Dail Chambers, Blue! and Brandon Tolson. In attempts to spread our community work, and creativity we are traveling to various sister cities. We are pleased to announce our opportunity to show in New Orleans, Louisiana. During our collaboration we will be documenting a long the way, to support please purchase a poster, artwork, jewelry and cd.’s. Through the arts, we can create liberating windows of exchange and dialogue!

Dail Chambers:

A ceramic sculptor and installation artist. She is a jewelry maker, and craftswoman. She most recently founded Yeyo Arts Collective and Gya, an arts based cooperative business in St. Louis. The Community Gallery and Fine Craft Shop holds classes, exhibitions, cultural events, discussions, and tours. The space is run by Yeyo Arts Collective, which is made up of a well-ranged group of women artists. Dail Chambers believes that through the arts we can creatively voice ourselves, represent our communities, and reshape our society.

In this traveling exhibition Chambers will have on display a variety of mediums and wares, including her small paper works and jewelry. She is excited to share the cross-cultural connections of St. Louis and New Orleans from a creative perspective.

Blue!:

Singer, songwriter, creative, musician, and thesbian, Blue!, enjoys making art that inspires people to be better people. She received classical and jazz training at an early age and has been featured in several ensembles, symphonies, and bands in the U.S. and Spain.

Blue! is currently producing her lively acoustic solo debut album "Nappy Kitchen" featuring the fun and witty singles "Stay In The Car" and "Mean People". She coins her genre "funktastic stank" which includes a combination of rock, folk, funk, electronica, avant garde, and soul. As a vocalist and acoustic guitarist in the band A-List, Blue! embraces the opportunity to work with amazing nappy funktastik stankness.

Artistik Approach is a group of individuals expressing their creativity through a medium called music.
